The founder of Contento, Juan Mont is also an oil painter that previewed his series, titled Bubble Gum in the lower East side in December 2018. Mont’s work is inspired by the vibrant video games of the 80’s and 90’s.

It all started with Windows PC back when Juan was 16, as he spent hours brainstorming and creating his first trademark fantastical, which was designed as an abstract design. A slow process where Juan projected objects into canvas, traced, painted and then carefully reproduced each deep color for every line he painted.

This body of work was a personal homage to some of his favorite video games, from Nitentdo’s Marios Brothers, to the Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and even cartoon shows, such as Gargoyles, Tiny Toon, and X-men. Working with highly saturated colors, Juan infuses his favorite video game characters into his paintings, resulting in rich, playful and upbeat visuals.
